The Japanese have been making rice a lot since ancient times.
By the Edo period, rice was treated like money and was paid to the shogunate as a tax.
Rice was cherished like money.
Also, the living residence was in a dark place and a sunny place was given to the rice field.
I think that it was a living environment that we can not understand at the present time.
And rice straw after rice harvesting was available in large quantities in every household.
They changed it to daily necessities, and they were living seriously by bartering them with seafood, vegetables, cloths and so on.
Among them, sandals have the opportunity to wear the most, everyone casually made it and wore it.
Of course the samurai was wearing it.
I started a workshop to inform foreigners without erasing this rice straw culture.
Although it is not a real rice straw, I use a plastic rope that is light and easy to clean.
Of course you can touch real rice straw.
I am happy that customers from overseas who participated are very pleased.
もともと、日本人は農耕民族です。
江戸時代まではお米はお金のように扱われ、年貢（税金）として幕府に納めておりました。
お米はお金のように大切にされていたのです。
生活においても、住居は日当たりの悪い、うす暗いところで、日当たりの良い場所は田んぼにという具合に、
今では理解できない住環境であったように思います。
そして、米を収穫した後の稲わらはどこの家庭でも、大量に手に入っておりました。
それを日用品に変え、時には海の幸、山の幸、野菜などと物々交換をして生計をたてていたのです。
その中でも、サンダルは最も履く機会が多く、誰でも気軽に作って履いていました。
もちろんサムライも履いていました。
私は、この稲わらの文化を絶やすことなく、外国の人にも知ってもらうために、ワークショップを開催しています。
本物の稲わらではありませんが、軽く、お手入れも簡単なわら風ロープを使用し、楽しく作っていきます。
もちろん、本物の稲わらもドライフラワー状態にしているものを触っていただけます。
外国からのお客様はとても感動してくれますので、それだけで私もうれしいです。
